Remembering singer Whitney Houston 

"Whitney returns home today to the place where it all began," said actor Kevin Costner, who starred opposite Houstonin the 1992 hit film, "The Bodyguard." He urged those around the world to "dry our tears, suspend our sorrow -- and perhaps our anger -- just long enough, just long enough to remember the sweet miracle of Whitney."

Houston, who died in a Beverly Hills hotel room last week, recorded stirring love songs and vibrant dance tunes during a 30-year career that peaked with her 1992 signature hit "I Will Always Love You" and paved the way for a generation of singers that followed her. 

Record producer Clive Davis, who discovered and guided Houston throughout her career spoke at the service, which Oprah Winfrey and Mariah Carey also attended.

Tyler Perry's plane takes Whitney Houston's body home

The actor/producer offered his jet to transport the body of Whitney Houston to her final resting place in New Jersey. Services for the diva will be held on Saturday, and there is no public event planned. Mourners left flowers, notes, and candles at the church where the megastar first showedher talent as a child.

 

A Gulfstream Aerospace G-IV aircraft believed to be carrying the body of singer Whitney Houston takes off from Van Nuys Airport on Monday en route to New Jersey. The Los Angeles County coroner's office released the body to the family late Monday morning. The body was taken to Newark, where her funeral will be held Saturday.

Cissy Houston has opened up about her daughter Whitney Houston's untimely death on Saturday.

"We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Whitney," the gospel singer said in a statement obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com. "This is an unimaginable tragedy and we will miss her terribly. We appreciate the outpouring of love and support from her fans and friends."

Cissy Houston, 78, is said to have talked to her daughter half an hour before her death about attending Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party, according to TMZ.

The entertainment outlet also reports that Houston talked to her cousin Dionne Warwick several hours earlier, to confirm that they would be sitting at the same table at that evening's party.

The 48-year-old singer was pronounced dead at a room at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, California on Saturday, February 11, 2012
