Ida Kristina Ljungqvist was born to a Tanzanian mother and a Swedish father. Her father was a diplomat and her mother a nurse, and because of the nature of her father's duties as a representative for UNICEF, Ida traveled the world and lived in a series of countries, including Cambodia, Kenya, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Sweden, Thailand and Ethiopia. She is fluent in three languages: Swedish, Swahili and English.
Although acting and modeling have always been a dream for Ida, her introduction to the industry was as unique as it is iconic. While actively pursuing her childhood passion for fashion by working at a boutique on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, CA, Ida became good friends with many of her customers--one of whom was the chief editor of Playboy Magazine. Playboy was not something Ida had ever considered, but the adventuresome young woman met with the legendary Hugh Hefner who quickly found a place for the vivacious African beauty in the pages of Playboy. With her charisma, charm and cultured outlook, she won the hearts and votes of Hefner and Playboy enthusiasts EVERYWHERE, and earned the coveted title of America’s ultimate girl next door: Playmate of the Year 2009. Ida makes history as the 1st African-born Playmate of the Year--she celebrates her title as the 50th Anniversary Playmate in a tradition that dates back to the days of sirens like Marilyn Monroe, who was also the 1st Cover of Playboy Magazine!
Currently, Ms. Ljungvist resides in Los Angeles, CA. She is actively involved with the philanthropic group "Empowerment Works!” Her mother’s selfless work as a nurse helps Ida to value and empathize with the human condition. Ms. Ljungvist has focused her charitable work toward raising money and awareness for the inhabitants of Kigoma, Tanzania where many of the victims of the genocide in Rwanda fled and now live. Ida would like to see this area become a hub of economic enterprise, bringing hope and dignity to the inhabitants of her native Tanzania.
Ms. Ljungvist is currently studying theater at the Ivana Chubbuck Studio in Hollywood, while pursuing a career as an actor and model.
